YSL:Bad Boy

Millions adored him. His name was on everything: shoes, clothes and even glasses. For years any woman worth her three inch stiletto heels owned a Yves Saint Laurent piece. Whether it be one of his glorified pieces that walked the runway on a six foot five Parisian model or his signature sickly sweet perfume that came wafting out of the fanciest of boutiques; he was worn and adored by many.

But he did return the love that was felt and given to ? No Yves Saint Laurent didn’t love. He used and abused and became physically dangerous as he hurtled glass ashtrays at his nearest and dearest.

Saint Laurent:Bad Boy, released today, is a vivid account of the dark side to the mysterious yet inspiring designer who lit up the halls of fame and fashion for decades.

“Yves Saint Laurent didn’t have friends. He loved nobody. He was intimate with nobody.” were the harsh words of his oldest and most gorgeous muse Betty Catroux who was photographed at the opening of Yves Saint Laurent’s first store back in the yesteryears of 1969.

He was described a “frightfully unhappy” from the beginning of the Seventies and by 76’ he had fallen into the Judy Garland Syndrome. Just like the doomed singer of the Thirties, he drowned out the harsh reality of being a famous “poof” fashion designer with booze, drugs and violence.

He may have been notoriously praised for produced a array of influential gorgeous fashion forward haute couture for very runway his designs would grace but his personal life was a far cry from the image the public saw.

“He was an athlete when it came to ashtray throwing”. Abuse, violence and drugs. The secret passion of Yves Saint Laurent. The side to the enigmatic designer that the world never saw. The side his fans never had a clue about. The side his closest friends and muses suffered the wrath of”.

Saint Laurent:Bad Boy is available now.
